The Lexus brand is a status symbol for wealthy Americans. It is the luxury division of Japanese carmaker Toyota and since its debut in 1989 it has steadily risen to become the best-selling line of luxury cars in the world. These cars are not made and designed to be displayed to friends and admirers. They are built to be driven and have a top-notch performance and comfort enhancing features. Lexus was launched in 1989 after having started researching and working on it in 1983. Eiji Toyoda wanted to create a luxury vehicle to challenge the best of what was out there. HE called in for a secrete meeting and the project was name coded F1. Ever since, Lexus sales have steadily raised. The company has sold a million cars in its first decade. Four years later, the next million Lexus vehicles were sold. The Lexus IS are the smallest of the fleet. According to the company, IS stands for Intelligent Sport.
